DESCRIPTION OF HO WOOD
Ho Wood Essential Oil has recently been used as a replacement for Rosewood Essential Oil because of its similar chemical properties and applications. Previously used for sword and knife handles because it would not scratch the fine blades, Ho Wood became more popular in 1985 when a major explosion at a linalool-producing facility greatly decreased the available supply, which launched Ho Wood as a natural and sustainable replacement. Locally referred to as Shiu Oil, it is commonly broken for its aromatic constituents.
Ho Wood Essential Oil, Cinnamomum camphora var linalool, is steam distilled from the bark and wood (and sometimes the leaves are simultaneously distilled) of the same tree that brings us Ravintsara Essential Oil. Ravintsara Essential Oil is distilled from the leaves of Cinnamomum camphora and is sometimes known as Ho Leaf Oil.
Ho Wood is one of the most potent sources of naturally occurring linalol found in any steam distilled essential oil.
Ho Wood is calming to the mind without causing drowsiness. Due to its high % of linalol, the oil is thought to be deeply nourishing and supportive to the immune system. Use this oil for healing from an infection, cold or flu.
Ho Wood is also a great oil for reducing inflammation, spasms and pain in muscles and joints. It has an analgesic, anti-inflammatory effect and when combined with oils such as Helichrysum, Lavender and Black Spruce, it makes a wonderful massage oil.
